HJM Asia Law Women Luncheon 2017, Singapore, May 30th, 2017

HJM Asia Law proudly pursued the tradition and hosted its annual women’s lunch on May 30th, 2017.  This year, HJM invited a group of more than forty (40) women with various backgrounds and expertise to this event, which celebrates women leadership and business successes.  This was another great network opportunity and forum to share each other’s accomplishments and achievements.  HJM’s team is already planning the 2018 edition!

Primerus Asia Pacific Client Seminar 2017, Hong Kong, March 1st and 2nd, 2017 – Employment Law in Asia– Strategies for Protecting Your Greatest Asset

Moderating a session on hiring and firing staff in Asia using a comparative approach with my panellists Edward Sun from Hengtai Law Offices in Shanghai, LiPu Lee from Formosan Brothers in Taiwan, and Suwit Suwan from Navinlaw LLC Primerus in Thailand was interesting and done in a very interactive way including input and questions from some of the 60 attendees involved in legal practices in Hong Kong.  This session was part of the program organised by Primerus, society of world’s top independent boutique law firms. The program was held in conjunction with the Association of Corporate Counsel International Legal Affairs Committee in Hong Kong. The full program of the seminar can be viewed here.

Primerus Global Conference 2016, Washington D.C., October 13th to October 16th, 2016

Primerus, society of world’s top independent boutique law firms, held its Global Conference 2016 in Washington D.C.. Caroline Berube, the Managing Partner of HJM Asia Law, was a panellist at a session titled “Commercial Leasing – Cross Border Pitfalls to Avoid”.  Caroline covered risks arising when negotiating a commercial lease when setting up a factory or warehouse in various countries in Asia. As Co- Chair of Asia Pacific Regional Forum of the International Bar Association, Caroline Berube, the Managing Partner of HJM Asia Law moderated a session on “Talent management: best practices for keeping your people happy at Law Firm Management Conference held in Tokyo. The session focussed on retaining the best talents and creating a better place to work in boutique and international law firm in India, Hong Kong, Japan and China. Young Global Leaders Annual Summit 2016, Tokyo, October 18th to October 21st, 2016

Caroline Berube, the Managing Partner of HJM Asia Law, was selected as a Young Global Leader  by the World Economic Forum which recognizes the most distinguished leaders under the age of 40. She attended the Young Global Leaders Annual Summit 2016 in Tokyo. The WEF is an international institution committed to improving the state of the world through public-private cooperation and engages political, business, academic and other leaders of society in collaborative efforts to shape global, regional and industry agendas. Interlegal General Assembly Meeting, Barcelona, October 23rd, 2016

Caroline Berube, the Managing Partner of HJM Asia Law as the Chairperson of the Corporate Group of Interlegal, was a speaker at the Interlegal General Assembly Meeting held in Barcelona. The session focussed on 10 key points in a M&A Technology Transaction in China. Interlegal with its significant presence caters to full range of corporate services, completed by knowledge of business, customs and local culture within each country and held its annual meeting with EURA Audit, a group of accounting firms from all over the world. On October 26th, 2016, HRD, a HR renowned magazine with Asia coverage, asked our team to comment on the legal terms to be considered while submitting Employment Pass (EP) applications for their clients. The article offered insight on changes in the procedural aspects of EP application laid down by the Ministry of Manpower, Singapore.
