McGill Faculty of Advisory Board Meeting, McGill School of Law, June 22- 23rd, 2016 (Montreal)

Caroline Berube attended the Summer FAB meeting at the McGill in June 2016. Caroline has been an active member of the Advisory Board since 2013 and attends the semi-annual meetings in Montreal each year. The board provides regular support and recommendations to the Dean and the Faculty of Law at McGill University. HJM Asia Law partnered with Yulex Attorneys in the Montreal, both Interlegal members, an international legal association, to bring the “Risks related to commercial contracts in Asia” seminar to their contacts and clients. Caroline focused on topics such as getting paid by your clients in Asia, dispute resolution and cultural differences. The event was a great success with the legal community in Montreal and we look forward to organizing more events with Yulex in the near future.

Every year HJM Asia Law organizes the Annual HJM Women’s Lunch to recognize the women leaders in the community and celebrate the successful and ambitious women around us. This was another huge success with women from various backgrounds and industries getting together to connect, form valuable relationships and of course, celebrate their achievements. HJM Asia Law and Caroline love being part of a huge women’s network and share each other’s accomplishments.

HJM Asia Law has recently joined as a member of the Law Europe International, a multi-national network of independent law firms providing legal assistance to clients of its member firms around the world. Founded in 1992, the group currently has members with, collectively, more than 800 lawyers worldwide. Caroline Berube attended the IBA Mid-Year Meetings in Barcelona where she participated in the Officers’ and Council meetings. Caroline is the Co-Chair of the Asia Pacific Forum Regional Forum, Co-Chair of the China Working Group and the Asia Pacific Forum Liaison Officer/ Publications Chairs for the Intellectual Property and Entertainment Law Committee. Last Friday the managing partner of HJM Asia Law, Caroline Berube, spoke to LLM students at the Sorbonne-ASSAS International Law School about her experiences as a lawyer. She covered topics such as her background- studies, admission, languages and extra curricular activities; type of work HJM Asia Law does in China and South East Asia; our niche and industries; and of course her passion for law.  Caroline is a firm believer in passing on the knowledge to the younger generation and was honoured to be a guest speaker at the event.
