HJM Asia Law Almuerzo de Mujeres 2017, Singapur, 30 de mayo de 2017

HJM Asia Law se cumplió con la tradición y organizó su almuerzo anual de mujeres el 30 de mayo de 2017. Este año, HJM invitó a un grupo de más de cuarenta (40) mujeres de diversos ámbitos y experiencia. En este evento se celebra el liderazgo femenino y los éxitos empresariales. Esta fue otra gran oportunidad de networking y un foro para compartir los logros de cada una. ¡El equipo de HJM ya está organizando la edición 2018!

World Economic Forum Young Global Leaders: Leading for Transformation, December 4th to December 7th , 2016 (South Africa)

Caroline, together with 30 Young Global Leaders (YGLs) from around the world met in Johannesburg for a special education module organised by the WITS Business School (WBS). Under the theme ‘Leading for Transformation’, the module introduced 30 dynamic YGLs to the concept of leadership in the African political and economic context.  It also aims to offer YGLs an intense, immersive personal development experience with regard to African societal and leadership opportunities, and practical networks for developing links between African and Rest-of-World leadership projects.

The young leaders began their tour with a visit to the Cradle of Humankind followed by a welcome dinner hosted by Wits Vice-chancellor Professor Adam Habib at his official residence, Savernake. The group also visited Johannesburg’s Maboneng District, the Origins Centre and the Tshimologong Innovation Hub at WITS University, and the Kliptown Youth Programme (KYP).  The full programme of the event can be viewed here.

Primerus Global Conference 2016, Washington D.C., October 13th to October 16th, 2016

Primerus, society of world’s top independent boutique law firms, held its Global Conference 2016 in Washington D.C.. Caroline Berube, the Managing Partner of HJM Asia Law, was a panellist at a session titled “Commercial Leasing – Cross Border Pitfalls to Avoid”.  Caroline covered risks arising when negotiating a commercial lease when setting up a factory or warehouse in various countries in Asia. International Bar Association 2016 Law Firm Management Conference , Evolution or revolution – growth and international expansion of law firms in Asia, Tokyo, October 17th, 2016

As Co- Chair of Asia Pacific Regional Forum of the International Bar Association, Caroline Berube, the Managing Partner of HJM Asia Law moderated a session on “Talent management: best practices for keeping your people happy at Law Firm Management Conference held in Tokyo. The session focussed on retaining the best talents and creating a better place to work in boutique and international law firm in India, Hong Kong, Japan and China. Young Global Leaders Annual Summit 2016, Tokyo, October 18th to October 21st, 2016

Caroline Berube, the Managing Partner of HJM Asia Law, was selected as a Young Global Leader  by the World Economic Forum which recognizes the most distinguished leaders under the age of 40. She attended the Young Global Leaders Annual Summit 2016 in Tokyo. The WEF is an international institution committed to improving the state of the world through public-private cooperation and engages political, business, academic and other leaders of society in collaborative efforts to shape global, regional and industry agendas. Asia Strategies: Protecting your IP, Enforcing Contracts & Defining Hong Kong’s Role, the International Trade Association of Greater Chicago, May 11th, 2016 (Chicago)

The special luncheon program was held and sponsored by the International Trade Association of Greater Chicago with the Hong Kong Business Association of the Midwest.  Caroline Berube, Managing Partner, HJM Asia Law, and Kristina Koehler-Coluccia, Director, Koehler Group were guest speakers at the seminar.  As China’s economy matures and slows, and Southeast Asian countries seek greater economic integration among themselves and through the Trans-Pacific Partnership, they provided fresh insight on some key strategic issues faced by U.S. exporters, importers and investors. Caroline, in particular, covered the topic of “Pitfalls in Commercial Contracts and IP Risks in Asian Jurisdictions”.  You can find out more event information here: Asia Strategies Event

19th Annual IBA International Arbitration Day, March 3rd-4th, 2016 (Shanghai)

Given the strong commitment of the IBA (International Bar Association) to increasing membership and engagement in China, the 19th Annual IBA International Arbitration day was held in China. Additionally, David Rivkin, the President of the IBA jointly with the IBA China Working Group (which Caroline Berube co-chairs), organized exclusive lunch events in Beijing and Shanghai ahead of the conference which were attended by local legal experts and leaders. All of the events, the lunches and the conference, were a huge success. Caroline looks forward to chairing the China Working Group in the year ahead and increasing IBA’s awareness and presence in China. Intellectual Property in China” Webinar, Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal, March 15th, 2016

The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal, in collaboration with Export Development Canada, has organized another “Intellectual Property in China” or “Propriété intellectuelle en Chine” webinar for its members, this time conducted in French. The webinar helped to demystify the myths and realities of intellectual property in a business context and allowed participants to understand their intellectual property rights, and thereby protect themselves and their company, particularly in a constantly evolving new environment. Caroline Berube is passionate about IP in Asia and its fast constant development and loves sharing her insight on topics such as particularities of IP in China, trademark conventions, challenges of IP litigation, and pre-emptive measures of IP protection.
